VMware: ESX 4.1 Active Directory Integration

Since vSphere 4.1 there’s a possibility to connect your ESX server into Microsoft Active Directory, how do you configure this:

– Connect directly to your ESX host

– Make sure your DNS servers are correct configured on the host + add the host by FQDN in your DNS server in your domain;

  – Goto: Configuration tab > Authentication Services > Properties;

– Select: Active Directory > Domain settings: Enter domain name + you can select the correct path in AD to add the host directly in de preferred OU. In my case VMpros.local/Deventer/ESX ;

– Enter your domain credentials;

 image

– The ESX host entered the domain;

– And in the correct OU folder;

Permissions:

Now you can manage your security groups by adding some groups under “Assign Permissions”:

– Select your domain name, in my case VMPROS;

image

– Now you can manage the credentials and permissions for this security group;
