Microsoft 365 Backup Storage Announcement Recap

Three months ago, Veeam announced some news as a launch partner for Microsoft 365 Backup Storage. The planned integration of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 using Microsoft 365 Backup Storage APIs will bring customers and partners new capabilities for backup, recovery, ransomware protection, and business continuity. The excitement and anticipation for this integration can be felt in full force at Microsoft Ignite this week as the public received their first glimpse of Veeam’s integration in action at Veeam’s booth.

Veeam’s Integration with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage

Our Veeam R&D and product teams have been in deep collaboration with Microsoft over the past few months, and it was evident in the demo video clip shown at Microsoft Ignite.

We demonstrated how customers will be able to run backups through Microsoft 365 Backup Storage APIs and perform fast restores of high-volume Microsoft 365 data, helping organizations to recover from catastrophic events like ransomware quicker than ever thought possible.

It’s evident that great progress has been made on this integration, and we look forward to being able to share more updates as we approach its availability.

Partnering to Tackle Ransomware on Microsoft 365

The integration of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage will enable organizations to achieve high speed and high-volume recovery of Microsoft 365 data, and it could not come at a better time. More and more organizations are becoming victims of ransomware attacks, and SaaS applications like Microsoft 365 are starting to become the focus of these attacks. According to a study by ESG, in the last 12 months, 53% of organizations have experienced data loss or corruption in their SaaS applications. Data recovery is not a given, in fact, ESG also found that less than 25% of companies that suffered a data loss incident were able to recover 100% of their Microsoft 365 data. This integration not only makes practical sense but is a necessity to meet the recovery expectations of organizations today. By partnering together, Veeam and Microsoft can help to minimize their downtime and ensure that large amounts of data can be recovered quickly and efficiently.

Veeam + Microsoft 365 = Better Together

“As the #1 global market leader in data protection and ransomware recovery, Veeam continues to strengthen our long-standing relationship with Microsoft. New integrations of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage via Microsoft’s backup APIs will bring customers and partners new capabilities for backup, recovery, ransomware protection and business continuity, and provide the fastest ransomware recovery available for Microsoft 365 data. Together with Microsoft, Veeam helps organizations to recover from catastrophic events like ransomware and enables them to bounce back with radical resilience to keep their business running.”

– Danny Allan, CTO at Veeam
