VMware: VMDebug driver (version 7.3.4.3) was not enabled

December 2nd, 2010 No comments

image

Yesterday I was upgrading my Citrix farm running on ESXi 4.1, after upgrading the VM with some updates the server crashed, received warning:

VMDebug driver (version 7.3.4.3) was not enabled.  This driver is required by the replay debugging feature of VMware Workstation. If you are using other VMware products or not using replay debugging, please ignore this message.

Resolution:

The virtual machine debug driver is not required in an ESX host. The driver is used for record/play functions in Fusion and Workstation products.

To prevent the message from appearing, browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmdebug

Change the Start key from 1 to4. This disables it.

February 28th, 2010 2 comments

image

The NoDrives tool creates a ADM files to remove the icons representing selected drives from My Computer and from Windows Explorer. Also, the drive letters representing the selected drives do not appear in the standard Open dialog box.

This tool creates a easy to use Group Policy Template. You do not need to calculate the drive value you only have to check the drives you want to hide and create the ADM.

APPLIES TO
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003,
  • Microsoft Windows 2000

To use Microsoft Windows Cluster Service in VMware ESX you need to config you’r VM’s with independent persistent disks.

Citrix: Citrix Print Management Service is missing

September 23rd, 2009 No comments

I was called yesterday that local printers and some network printers arn’t mapped in a user Citrix session. Normally you can choose and test with restarting from the Windows Print Spooler en Citrix Print Management Service but… there was no Citrix Print Management Service.

With CtxCpsvc10.exe you can Uninstall, Install the Citrix Print Management service and you can recreate the ctx_cpsvcuser user with the correct startup credentials in the service.

In my case I used: cpsvc.exe –install to install the Citrix Printer Service

Result: Citrix Printer Service installed.
